"Ron Carter isn't just the most recorded bass player
in human history- he's also an extremely erudite jazz
scholar, and that's the hat he'll be wearing when he
visits host Bob Putignano to discuss the legacy of

Tropea, who plays at Smoke tonight."

RUTH BROWN'S IN TOWN: Ruth Brown, who started her career in 1947 and is still up on the stage today,
talks this morning with Bob Putignano on WFDU (89.1 FM). Putignano features jazz and blues every Wednesday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Brown is in town doing a month-long engagement at Le Jazz Au Bar on E. 58th St. The show includes a tribute
to Lena Horne as well as Brown's own material - back to her classic "Mama, He Treats Your Daughter Mean."
She's also a great storyteller and she was there in the days when rhythm and blues was turning into rock 'n' roll.
Hear her on the radio. Then go see her.

RAY CHARLES:
"I heard my first Ray Charles record in 1956 when I was fourteen. That was the first domino in the rest of my
life. Everything I've ever done professionally, and sometimes even personally, is tied to that moment. He may
be gone, but what he did is here for as long as people need to feel." - Joel Dorn
Bob Putignano interviews Joel Dorn for Blues Revue Magazine.
"Just got off the phone with Concord Records where Ray Charles was working on his latest CD, and great news is that Ray did complete the recording before he passed! So there will be at least one more Ray Charles CD! Live on Brother Ray!!!" -
Bob Putignano
